First Presbyterian Church of
Shenandoah was organized in 1871, and a white frame structure was built
on the present site in 1884. The existing building, designed by architects
from Pennsylvania noted for Presbyterian churches, was completed in 1917.
The organ was purchased in 1921, and was rebuilt in 1961. The educational
wing was constructed in 1958. The church's 100th Anniversary was
celebrated on June 6, 1971.
Organ Restoration - Work to restore the church organ to it's original beautiful condition is ongoing and, thanks to generous member support, is anticipated to be completed in 2003. Accessibility
- A strategic plan to make the Church more accessible to those who
may find it physically difficult to attend worship and other church functions
was developed and approved, and the installation of a lift should begin
in 2003.
